Emsland district: organic waste bins with bio-filter lids from 2026
New filter lids for fewer maggots and odors in organic waste bins in Emsland was the headline in the NOZ (Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung) last weekend: Starting in 2026, the district of Emsland will offer its citizens organic filter lids for organic waste bins at an additional cost.
According to the NOZ newspaper, there was considerable interest among political representatives at the latest meeting of the works committee of the waste management company (AWB) in the district of Emsland in the new lid for organic waste bins.
The bio-filter lid has already proven on numerous occasions in the past that it can make a significant contribution to increasing the connection rate for organic waste bins, as it reduces the disgust factor associated with organic waste. According to Heinz Bökers, operations manager of the waste management company in the district of Emsland, the aim is to achieve a connection rate of 80 percent for organic waste bins.
Bökers explained to politicians that the filter is as simple as it is effective: on the one hand, the lid closes tightly thanks to a rubber seal, keeping flies and maggots away. On the other hand, the resulting foul gases are neutralized by a built-in biofilter.
